Child Protection

Millions of children worldwide are subjected to violence, exploitation and abuse including the worst forms of child labor in communities, schools and institutions; during armed conflict; and to harmful practices such as female genital mutilation/cutting and child marriage. Millions more, not yet victims, also remain without adequate protection.
The creation of a protective environment for children in partnership with governments, national and international partners including the private sector, and civil society.  National child protection systems, protective social practices and children’s own empowerment coupled with good oversight and monitoring are among the elements of a protective environment and enable countries, communities and families to prevent and respond to violence, exploitation and abuse.

CHAON (Children Action against Oppression and Neglect)
SYCOP is implementing a mega pilot project for child protection in seven union councils of district Muzaffar Garh since June 2010, in partnership with Save the Children. The name of project is Children’s Action against Oppression & Neglect (CHAON). It is an integrated project combining protection, education, economic empowerment of women and families and preventive health interventions aimed at improving the lives of all children in project communities, including a particular emphasis on children who work in the cotton industry. The project will empower 200 local communities to fulfill children’s rights, in collaboration with government. It will also ensure increasing capacity of communities to fulfill children’s rights and, it will advocate for changes to policy and practice as they relate to the achievement of children’s rights.
Key strategies that will guide implementation of the project include; children’s participation, women participation and empowerment, community participation and empowerment, partnership with civil society and government, advocacy and policy change and reduce bonded labor. The project is laying foundations in the communities and district for developing a sustainable ‘Child Protection System’. The important aspects of sustainability include; strengthening the local communities and organizing them into Community Based Organization (CBO) at each union council level, formation and strengthening of a civil society network for child protection at the district level, support children into education, strengthen the government education system by improving the physical and learning environment in schools through development and implementation of School Improvement Plans (SIP), developing cadre of community volunteers as health education promoters and strengthening the public health facilities.
Women are the most deprived and discriminated section of the society of Pakistan (especially Muzaffargarh), are the main focus of SYCOP. As cross-cutting theme in all of our activities, the struggle for the Gender and Women and children Rights is reflected through our women councilor’s network gender sensitization trainings and activities such as celebrating cultural activities on the occasions of Global Women and Children days every year regularly. Provision of free legal aid services for juveniles children.
We have 2 graduates in 9 training workshops each of the duration of 3 days held by DCHD, LAHORE” as Human Rights Activist.  They are working voluntarily s a Resource Persons, and deliver their human rights awareness lectures in the CBO’s (Male & Female) meeting.  There is a permanent stall to deliver awareness printed literature in the corner of Head Office.

On the occasion of global women day SYCOP arranged a verity program for women. Speeches on women rights situation, English Human rights song “we shall over come one day” by SYCOP and some role plays on female education was in it. Awareness stall by SYCOP was established to provide Human rights material. This stall was visited by Deputy Director Social Welfare, D.G.Khan.

Women Melas

During celebrations of global women days SYCOP arrange melas for women, where women of countryside areas enjoy the entertainments of theatre for awareness of human rights, mobilized for education, sell their product of poultry and handmade items, purchase needful things and refreshments, take awareness and information for bait-ul-mall, take information for vegetable/crops from stall of agriculture department for their better income and livelihood.
